Another Info Manager: Onfolio
Northwest VC has a lengthy post on his blog about the tool Onfolio and how he finds it indispensable.
Verrry interesting. Maybe I should try out this product!
What is Onfolio? [Go to the offical website.]
“Onfolio is a PC application for reading RSS news feeds, collecting and organizing online content, and publishing to email, weblogs and web sites.”
The product costs $30 for the personal edition and $100 for the “professional” edition. Hmmm.
Is the product easy to transfer from one computer to another though? Is it
Again, I switch from computer to computer from morning to evening to weekend. I don’t want all my precious stuff landlocked on one machine.
But, is Onfolio funded by Vulcan Capital (employer of Northwest VC)? Gotta watch out for those conflicts of interest…
Another interesting factoid, Paul Allen founded Microsoft with Bill Gates, worked there for 8 years before being forced into retirement due to Hodgkin’s Disease. According to Forbes, Allen is worth $21bn today ($5bn of which is in Microsoft stock). Pretty fruitful 8 years, huh? (Allen owns Vulcan Capital.)

Have you tried http://www.bloglines.com? It’s a web based service that will aggregate all your RSS feeds. Pretty easy to use and it’s free.

Yes, I have heard of Bloglines — and I subscribe to quite a few blogs!
But, I was looking to use Onfolio more as an information manager and aggregator. But, since its confined to local use on one computer, I’m not sure if Onfolio fits what I’m looking for.

Onfolio is not funded by Vulcan Capital.
Onfolio collection data is easy to transfer from machine to machine, in that each collection is a self-contained .CFS file. However, there is not currently a way to automatically sync data in multiple files. (So you can’t make changes on two different computers and then have them automatically merge.)
Onfolio feeds are not currently designed to move around, but I wrote a Bloglines sync tool that lets us use bloglines synchronization: http://blog.joecheng.com/archives/2005/04/onfolio_can_now.html
Hope that helps!

Joe,
Thanks for clearing that up!
I didn’t mean to imply that Onfolio was funded by Vulcan, I just meant to say that its important to check for conflicts of interest. In Onfolio’s case, it wasn’t clear who provided funding from the website.
Is there any way Onfolio can be set up to allow access to the collected data from any machine on the Internet?
